Scots Nats plunge new depths of xenophobia.

They realise by now that they simply can't win the argument on facts. The realities of 2021 simply don't support independence for Scotland. Instead, they are resorting to stoking anti-English sentiment fuelled by a re-written

history. It's pure xenophobia.

He looks pretty

bloody authentic

to me.

April 14th 2021.

My ire was well and truly irked this week when I read that the the BBC's 'head of creative diversity' (a title which should be enough to frighten the horses all by itself) said that the character of John Luther from the excellent series by the same surname wasn't  'authentic enough'. He looks

pretty bloody authentic to me.

It's now so
obviously political.

"The remainers were right about one thing though. Brexit has given rise to protectionism, to chauvinist politicking and to a nasty, insidious form of populism contrasted with an open, accommodating and magnanimous opposite. They just got the geography the wrong way round."

Piers Morgan.jpg

We need people like

Piers Morgan more

than ever.

If anyone had told me that come April 2021, I'd be penning a piece in support of Piers Morgan, I'd have laughed. I can hardly abide the man.  However his right to take a point of view and to speak his mind is what he gets paid for.  We need people like Morgan.

Wir haben beschlossen,
es ist gut.

The EU's vaccination procurement plan was a disaster, and in an obvious effort to protect themselves, they tried to 'dampen

the market'. It backfired, but left millions of Europeans doubting the vaccine.

Whitehaven is
not a 'lesser evil'

As we work towards zero coal, announce
our green leadership to the world and prepare to lecture developing nations on the need to avoid using coal at GOP26 in November, we are also considering opening a new coal mine.  It beggars belief.

Sneering, smug
'certaintees'

So many politicians and commentators blamed the governments decision not to join the EU's vaccine programme as 'pure Brexit' that 'put ideology before people's lives'.   We can only be grateful they weren't

making the decisions at the time.  Read on      Feb 6th 2021

On the lessons

of history...

In the near future, time will have silenced the last voices of the holocaust, and with them dies a living memory that is beyond value. With the all-pervasive disregard of fact and the indefatigable advance of technology, will the lessons of history be learned and cherished as they should?

Trump

Ah... the sheer

schadenfreude.

Maybe it's this lockdown, which somehow seems so much more onerous than did last March's and appears to be twisting my perspectives somewhat, or maybe it's the palpable sense of pleasure derived from seeing the empire of the great orange liar crumble around him.

The anti-vaxxers will refuse the vaccine, and many

will contract covid.

Instead of costing the nation around £50, they will end up costing thousands.
Why not send them an invoice?

A good deal is one in whereby both parties have reached a fair agreement that addresses both their needs, and which provides an equitable basis for the future. On that basis, this is a good deal.

Operate only if there's an internet connection?   Be subjected to tiresome downloads and upgrades whether you want them or not? Pay for ever more but never own anything?

I don't think so.                                                                                                              Dec 13th 2020

The doom-laden predictions we've been subjected to for the last four years will come to nought. Of course they'll do a deal. They have to, says Grant.                             Dec 13th 2020

This was so completely outrageous, so utterly insane, I didn't believe it and thought  it might actually be the fake news he's been on about. I was mistaken. It's all true.

Damning IISCA report into Anglican Church reveals culture of protection for abusers and where support for perpetrators takes priority over help for victims.

No big surprise, says Grant.

Those who would

burn books must

be resisted.

Sept 29 2020

One wonders if the clamouring Twitterati falling over themselves to burn JK Rowling's novels have ever actually read a book.

If so, it surely wasn't modern history.

As the NYT tax story hit home, Trump claimed predictably that it was 'totally fake news', but then in his press conference said that the information was obtained illegally.

It can't be both.

Storm Ianos just hit the Ionian Islands, with devastating results. There were no such storms in the fifties, and one in the sixties. Since the turn of the century, there have been 47. The frequency is increasing, as is their intensity. This storm has hit home, as Assos in Cephalonia was one of my very favourite places.  Assos is no more.

The WWF Living Planet report is a wake-up call, but despite admirable efforts to  strike a note of optimism, one can't help thinking that too few of us are listening. The fact is that planet is in big trouble, and that means we are too.

The Flat Earthers accept overwhelming evidence -
on climate change.

Sept 8th 2020

It seems that because you believe in one conspiracy theory – no matter how ridiculous – you don't necessarily have to buy in to them all. It transpires that most members of the Flat Earth Society accept the reality of climate change. Indeed – it's the society's official position.
Who'd a thought it?

"We all get geared up for the consequences of a decision and then it's actually 'no – we're doing this instead'. It is frustrating and annoying. Surely any responsible government worthy of the name would know how to deal with a global pandemic without having to inconvenience us all the time". I find U turns strangely reassuring, says Grant.

This week Adele used Bantu knots in her hair and wore a Jamaican flag bikini top in a post on soshalmedja. In all fairness to her, it was the weekend in which the Notting Hill carnival usually takes place, and it very probably seemed like a good idea at the time.  After all, why not? Cultural appropriation is why not.  Or should that be why knot? Read on, dear reader.

If you believe that the world is supported by four elephants standing on a turtle's back, or that you're really a thetan from another planet - then your marriage under those beliefs is lawfully recognised in England and Wales.

If, on the other hand, your view of the world is based on reason, logic and the scientific method, and you would like to have a humanist wedding, it is not.   My  take on this is here.

The churches are closing their doors to the faithful.
As has often been observed of the lightning conductors on church steeples, surely this shows a certain lack of conviction?
Turn to God in the darkest hours of the pandemic by all means, but don't try to do it in the house of God. Those doors are locked.
You are denied entry. Sacred ground is off limits until further notice.

Pray read on.
